July 16th. Left hotel at 9am. Arrived at Lava Lake Trail head at 10. On PCT by 10:45. Talked to 5 PCT backpackers. Some were doing 25 to 30 miles a day. We gave apples to two of them. They thought they died and gone to heaven. Hiked 2 more miles til we could see Three Fingered Jack, Mt. Washington, and Mt. Jefferson. Then out to Scott pass trail, 3 miles. Then down to Green Lakes trail, 2 more miles. 3pm we stopped at Alder creek, to eat, replenish water and get cooled off, 6.8 miles. Back on trail at 4. Hiked another 1.5 miles to camp, Sliver pole burn area. A little over 8 miles today. Set up camp. Beef stroganoff for dinner. Sleeping under the stars. NO TENT...in our sleeping bags at 8. Stars are beautiful.
